TechCred FAQ

A comprehensive list of frequently asked questions relating to the TechCred program.

Ohio's TechCred Program gives businesses the chance to upskill current and future employees to help them qualify for a better job in today's tech-infused economy. Businesses that submit successful applications are reimbursed up to $2,000 per credential when current or prospective employees complete eligible technology-focused credentials, up to $30,000 per employer per funding round.

Any Ohio business, regardless of size or industry, can apply — as long as it's registered with the Ohio Secretary of State and has a physical, non-residential location in the state.

Employees must be W-2 employees (not 1099 contractors) and Ohio residents with a verifiable Ohio address. This applies to both current employees and prospective hires.

Applications are reviewed and evaluated during each funding round, so approval isn't automatic. Global Lynx helps you prepare a strong, complete application to maximize your chances of approval.

The TechCred program encourages employers to choose the training provider that will most effectively meet their needs. Examples of eligible training providers include: universities, community colleges, Ohio technical centers, and private training providers.

The credential must be industry-recognized, technology-focused, and completable in 12 months or less. The list of eligible credentials is available on the credential list page. If a credential you want isn't already listed, businesses can choose "Credential Not Listed" during the application process and answer a few simple questions about it — a panel of experts will then review it for approval.

Getting started with the TechCred program is simple.

  1. 1. Identify skills needed and employees
  2. 2. Partner with Global Lynx as your credential provider
  3. 3. Apply online during an open funding round
  4. 4. Enroll employees in the training program
  5. 5. Upload proof of credential completion
  6. 6. Receive reimbursement

Yes, TechCred can be used to train both current and prospective employees. So, the employer can train that employee during the layoff period and be reimbursed, as long as the employee is on the payroll at the point when the employer requests reimbursement.
